After a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Greta “Elaine” Shepherd passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 30, in Fairburn, S.D.
Elaine was born Sept. 6, 1937, to Gretchen “Eileen” McQuiston and Ralph Deveral Bowers in Athens, Ind. She graduated in 1955 from Akron High School, Akron, Ind.
Elaine was married three times during her life. She married Doyle Heckaman Sept. 23, 1955, in Silver Lake, Indiana. She married Harold Ousley in May 1960 in Indiana. She married Riley Shepherd Dec. 10, 1966, in Warsaw, Ind. She was married to Riley for 42 years.
Elaine is survived by her brothers, Mick (JoEtta) Bowers of Silver Lake, Ind., and Ralph Bowers, Jr., of Gretna, LA; sisters, Cindy (Jeff) Barnett of Seymour, IN, Mindy Bruce of Silver Lake, IN, and Linda (Larry) Gibson, Ovett, MS; Children, Jaime (Margaret) Heckaman of Silver Lake, IN, and Fairburn, SD; Sheryl (Les) Gunnink of Hermosa, SD, Cheryleen “Cheri” Ousley of Fairburn, SD, Rich Ousley of Rapid City, SD, and Clint (Michelle) Shepherd of Lingle, Wyo.; Step-children, Brenda Shepherd-(Dave) Bliss of Longmont, CO, Cheryl Shepherd (Peskar) Gilbreth of Cheyenne, WY, Terry (Jessie) Shepherd of Anchorage, AK, and Barbara Shepherd of Gering, NE; Grandchildren, Amy, Adam, Andrew, Paul, Matt, Michael, Geoff, Miranda, Kalei, Cory and Rhea; and Great-grandchildren, Abby, Wes, Will, Kaley, Nora, Waverly, Breanna, Grant, Meagan, Abigail, Nicolas, Darren, Riley and Dakota.
Elaine is well-known in the Black Hills area for her 27 years of Real Estate service as an agent, then broker. She won the Don Zenk award in 1996 for “Spirit of Cooperation,” presented by the Black Hills Boards of Realtors. She had many other Real Estate accomplishments to include Battle Creek Agency in Hermosa, S.D.
