Three cowgirls qualify for state

Custer High School rodeo team members Lexi McCoy, Ashlee Kritenbrink and Rachael McCoy qualified for the South Dakota State High School Rodeo Finals at a rodeo in Wall this past weekend.

Results from Saturday’s Rodeo:

Barrel Racing: Rachael McCoy – 1st (10 points) with a 15.932.

Breakaway Roping:   Lexi McCoy – seventh (four points) with a 5.89 and Kritenbrink ninth (two points) with a 6.82.

Pole Bending: Rachael McCoy – fourth (seven points) with a 21.550.

Results from Sunday’s Rodeo:

Barrel Racing: Rachael McCoy – second (nine pts) with a 15.817.

Breakaway Roping: Lexi McCoy – ninth (two points) with a 5.65.

Goat Tying: Kritenbrink – sixth (five points) with a 8.44.

Team Roping: Lexi McCoy placed third (eight points) with partner Seth Shorb with a 8.56.

Pole Bending: Rachael McCoy – second (nine points) with a 21.355.

Total Points from the weekend:

Barrel Racing: Rachael McCoy- 19 points

Breakaway Roping: Lexi McCoy– six points, Kritenbrink – two points

Goat Tying: Kritenbrink – five points

Team Roping: Lexi McCoy– eight points

Pole Bending: Rachael McCoy – 16 points

Prizes are awarded based on the two-day high point winners. Rachael McCoy was the high point winner in barrel racing and pole bending.

To qualify, contestants must earn a minimum of three points in an event at four rodeos (they can take a maximum of 30 points into the state  rodeo).  Points are earned based on placings in the top 10. Team members have two more chances to qualify and earn additional points this weekend at the Sturgis Regional Rodeos.
