William “Bill” Fitzner was born May 13, 1923 in Edgemont, S.D., to Frederick and Emma (Hauf) Fitzner.
Bill, of Hot Springs, S.D., died Jan. 5, 2018 at the Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs. He was 94.
In addition to his wife, Jeanette, Bill was preceded in death by daughter, Shirley Slaughter (Ken Abegg) of West Peoria, Ill.; sisters, Ruth (the late Edwin) Howe of Callaway, Neb., and Virginia Nelson of Portland, Ore.; brothers, Orville (the late Maybelle) Poore of Hot Springs; and Harold (the late Betty) Fitzner of Branson, Mo.; brothers/sisters-in-law, Robert Varick of Newcastle, Wyo., Henry (Liliane) Howe of Rapid City, S.D., Robert (the late Mary) Howe of New Mexico; Florence (the late Edward) Keller of Omaha, Neb., Willard Howe of Rapid City, Beryl (the late Eric) Erickson of Rapid City; and Donald Howe of Portland, Ore.; nephews, Curtis Poore of Spearfish, S.D., Richard (Dick) Fitzner of Branson and Johnny Traum of Portland.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Ruth Ann (Harold) Dahl of Hot Springs, Linda (Ken Iwanicki) Fitzner of Chicago, Ill., and Joan (Harold) Huelsen of Howard City, Mich.; son, Tim (Kathy) Fitzner of Custer, S.D.; son-in-law, Ken Abegg, (the late Shirley Slaughter) of West Peoria; grandchildren, James (Angie) Slaughter of Huntsville, Ala., Cindy (Rich) Messer III of East Peoria, Wendell (Carolyn) Hertel of Hot Springs, Kristine Bogner of Rapid City, Joseph (Helena) Huelsen of Winimucca, Nev., John Huelsen of Howard City, Matthew Iwanicki and Johanna Iwanicki of Chicago, Ill., Jeanene Krentz of Spearfish, Daniel (Elena) Fitzner of Kyiv, Ukraine, Lisa Fitzner of Rapid City, and Cheri Fitzner of West Palm Beach, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Nick (Morgan) and Andy Slaughter of Alabama, Tasha (Colin) Besser, Suzanne, Richie IV and Krista Messer of Illinois, William and Elizabeth Huelsen of Nevada, Lane Winans, Josie and Sydney Bogner of Oral, S.D.; two step-great-granddaughters; four step-great-great-grandchildren; siblings and in-law, Ralph (the late Dorothy) Fitzner of Rapid City, Helen Bennett of Hot Springs, Esther (the late Russell) Wineteer of Gillette, Wyo., Alevia (the late Lester) Howe of Rapid City, Liliane (the late Henry) Howe of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and grand-nieces, nephews and their children.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
