Kassidy Adam closed out her senior season by shooting a 200 at the Class A Girls State Golf Meet June 4-5 at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids.
Adam shot a 108 on the first day of competition, and followed that up with a 92 the second day of the meet, a personal best score for her.
“That was a great way to end her high school golf career shooting that the second day,” head coach Haley Uphoff said. “She was not happy with her score the first day but was able to shake it off and play very well the second day.”
Belle Fourche’s Payson Birkeland ended up winning the state championship with a 159 after the tournament’s initial winner, Sioux Fall’s Christian’s Kate Wynja, signed an incorrect scoreboard, leading to her disqualification. Alex Kandolin of St. Thomas More finished second at 160 and Jade Burr of Belle Fourche made it a one-two-three sweep for Black Hills Conference Golfers with a 161.
Belle Fourche also won the team title, with a score of 735. Sioux Falls Christian was second at 747, followed by Parkston at 751.
Uphoff said Adam, one of only two varsity golfers this year, was a joy to coach and that she wishes she could have a couple more years with her.
“She will do great things and I’m very proud of her season,” she said.
