The Custer Ministerial Alliance is once again sponsoring the annual Custer Community Christmas Project. Saturday, Dec. 15, is the culmination of months of preparation. The distribution of food baskets is from 10 a.m. to noon at The Storehouse and the Select-a-Gift is at 12:30 p.m.
Individuals and families in need are suggested by pastors, Social Services, The Storehouse, schools and individuals. Letters have been sent to potential participants, asking if they wish to be part of the dinner, Select-a-Gift, and/or the food basket program.
Anyone in need and who would appreciate participating, but does not receive a letter, may contact any pastor or Social Services. The only stipulation is that participants be Custer County residents.
The Storehouse needs food for over 200 baskets containing the makings for a Christmas dinner. Volunteers fill the bags at Custer Food Pantry. The baskets may be picked up at The Storehouse from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 15.
Gifts are gathered in November and December for all age groups. On Select-A-Gift Day, Dec. 15, participating families pick one gift for each family member.
Trees with gift tags have been placed in participating area churches and at First Interstate Bank, Shopko, Family Dollar, Dacotah Bank, Highmark Federal Credit Union, Ace Hardware and the Custer Jr./Sr. High School library.
There is a need for people to take “mother” and “father” tags so children can get a present for their parents. This also includes single males and females.
Gifts are to be returned unwrapped to the church or business where the tag was picked up by Tuesday, Dec. 11. The gifts will be collected for distribution at the Custer High School gym at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 15. Any gifts not given out are donated to WEAVE, the YMCA daycare center and The Storehouse.
