Anna W. Powell was born March 30, 1916 in Pedro, S.D., and was one of 10 children born to Dick and Anna (Hamann) Busskohl. She lived her whole life in South Dakota.
Anna completed eight years of country schooling and married Walton Powell in 1935. She worked as a dental technician for Dr. A.W. Hermann for 15 years.
Anna has lived in Custer, S.D., since 1942 and has been a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1943. After retiring in 1978, she then assembled jewelry for C&M Jewelry Co. for 13 years. In her retirement years, Anna spent her time on arts and crafts.
Anna died March 29, 2018, at Custer Regional Senior Care Center. She was 101.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert C. Powell; five sisters and three brothers.
Anna is survived by her foster daughter, Lillian Phillips of Boise, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Debra Powell of Hot Springs, S.D.; two grandsons, Robert (Jolene) Powell of Custer and Justin Phillips of Boise; four granddaughters, Wendy (Rodney) Huber of Pringle, S.D., Melissa Powell of Black Hawk, S.D., Taryn Dehl of Boise and Vonna (Bryan) Laue of Winchester, Va.; sister, Dorothy Mayer of Isabel, S.D.; 10 great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were April 5 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer with Reverend Eric Obermann officiating. Interment followed at Custer Cemetery.
