Custer volunteer firefighters braved below zero temperatures and wind chills of -30 in battling a cabin fire south of Custer in the wee hours of Friday morning. The fire call came in at approximately 2 a.m. and fire units arriving on scene found the approximately 10 foot by 12 foot structure fully engulfed in flames. The occupants of the cabin had safely evacuated the structure before fire crews arrived.
After safely extinguishing the blaze, fire crews cleared the scene about two hours later.
Assisting in the incident were tenders from Pringle and Argyle Volunteer Fire Departments, Custer Ambulance Service, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office and Custer County Communications.
The cause of the fire was not reported and it is not known whether the cabin was a rental unit or a residence.
