A helping hand at Thanksgiving

While many local helping organizations are busy gearing up for their annual Christmas charity emphases, the less fortunate were not forgotten during the Thanksgiving holiday.
On Sunday the Custer Community Action Team held a complementary Thanksgiving supper at Living Outreach Church just south of town.
“If something is holding you back from celebrating Thanksgiving this year (whether that be finances or no family nearby), please come be our guest,” read the invitation. The organization was planning for up to 80 guests and rides to the church were also made available.
In addition, the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church younger youth program called “Children Serving Christ” completed its 15th year of serving families in need in the community for Thanksgiving. The ministry provided a turkey and all the side dishes for a festive Thanksgiving celebration.
The Custer County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the organization to help deliver the baskets to the families who needed them. Many of the turkeys were donated by the Boyer family and other donations came from the congregation at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Thanksgiving baskets were delivered on Sunday.
With Christmas now just four and a half weeks away, organizations like  Community Action Team and the Custer Storehouse are working to provide food, gifts and other items to needy families in the area.
