Keystone local Cal Loock is being honored by the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame  (TSDHOF) as a member of the 2023 class of inductees.
Loock has been called an “ innovator “ in the sport of diving.
He was a state champion in springboard, an NCAA All-American diver while attending Southern Methodist University (SMU) and a U.S. National team member finalist for the Can-Am-Mex 1972 Canada Cup.
Loock has many other accolades including setting the record for the highest dive in Africa in 1974.
He is considered a “revolutionary” in the sport of high diving, helping to take the sport to the next level. His efforts have led to the Red Bull high diving competitions  as well as the introduction of high diving into Fédération Internationale de Natation. Perhaps Loock’s greatest accomplishment is the opportunities he has created for others who love the sport, traveling the world performing dives.
Eligibility and selection for inclusion in the hall of fame is stiff and is evaluated on many facets including contributions to aquatics in Texas and to to the development of aquatics as a whole as well as accomplishment as an athlete.
Loock comes from a family of accomplished competitive  divers, with the exception of his mother.  Both his parents taught water safety instruction.
His father Carl was a Rapid City Canyon Lake team lifeguard and swim and dive team coach for the 1941 State champion team
Loock’s sister Christine is already a  TSDHOF inductee and his sister Vicki will be inducted next year.
The TSDHOF will host a legends dinner to celebrate Loock’s induction in early spring.
