Olympics used to be fun to view

In case you have not noticed, the Tokyo Olympics started July 23 and will run through Aug. 8. Most Americans have a ho-hum attitude toward that worldwide event since it has turned into a public liberal forum by NBC, the network that has carried the event exclusively for many years.
This year the opening ceremony drew only 16.7 million television viewers, which is the lowest it has been in 33 years. The TV audience dropped 37 percent from the Rio de Janeiro opening ceremony in 2016, when 26.5 million people watched, and 59 percent from 2012, when 40.7 million people watched the London opener. The Tokyo ratings factored in both the live broadcast early Friday morning and a primetime re-airing. Reuters news service described Friday’s fall, the lowest since the 1988 Seoul Games, as a “steep drop.”
The Games are no longer fun to view. We found this explanation from a commentator on the internet.
“The network is turning the Olympics into a leftist forum to advocate socialism and communism. What is the goal of the leftist violence and nonsense? Socialism, then communism.  Socialism and communism are not compassionate.
“Whether a government owns the means of production via nationalized industries or enforces central planning via price controls and stringent regulatory structures, it operates under the assumption that an insulated leader and his legion of bureaucrats are the best judges of what people are worth.
“Socialism  deprives individual choice and crushes ambition in pursuit of a uniform, unfulfilling and arbitrary definition of “equality.” And it does all of this in the name of “the greater good.” But as we can see, absent individuals’ motivation and the productivity necessary to sustain it, that standard of equality deteriorates until there are no resources left to redistribute. In fact, democrats will never be happy until every American citizen has an equal share of nothing.”
We could not have described it better ourselves. All we have to do is look to our south 90 miles and see what the results of 62 years of oppressive Communism has done to that country. The Cuban people have had enough!
NBC has shot itself in the foot and now is suffering the consequences. It doesn’t help that most Americans are turned off by our athletes wanting to use the Olympic stage for promoting their ideas of what they think is wrong about America instead of being privileged to represent the greatest country on earth on the world stage.
Note to all professional and amateur athletes: we do not care what your views are about anything, much less those  views that seek to trash our country, the country that has helped put you on that stage! The kneelers and social justice warriors in sports (except the NHL) have been responsible for declining interest in all professional sports.
Is it any wonder the same is true about the Olympics and why it is no longer fun to watch?
