Elaine Ruth Alt was born on June 29, 1930 in Nobles County, Minn., to John and Clara (Goeken) Danneman and graduated from Fulda High School with the class of 1949. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Elaine married Malcolm McKirdy in 1955 and lived in St. Paul, Minn. The couple had a daughter, Kathleen, and later divorced. Elaine married Robert Anderson in 1959. They lived in Fulda and Worthington, Minn. Bob died in 1978.
Elaine worked for Nobles Cooperative Electric for 30 years. After retirement from the co-op in 1985 she married Wayne Alt of Mt. Vernon, S.D. They lived in Mitchell, S.D. Wayne died in 1998.
Elaine worked as an inventory specialist from 1985-99. She lived in Sioux Falls, S.D., until 2011 when she moved to Custer, S.D., to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Rich Polzine.
She enjoyed attending school events and sporting events when her grandson Cory was growing up. In later years she was again able to enjoy attending hockey, baseball, golf and musical events that her great-grandson Dylan was a part of.
She had many special friends, loved to dress up, socialize, go to movies, dances, concerts, shopping, eating out, parades and bingo at Custer Senior Center. She enjoyed traveling, going to Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings games.
She was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2016. As her illness progressed, she enjoyed sitting outside, her patio flowers, watching bicycles and runners on the Mickelson Trail. She enjoyed watching the tourist traffic and having picnics outside on the deck, car rides and phone calls and visits from family, friends and Pastor Pam who brought communion to her. She was a member of Custer Lutheran Fellowship. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.
Elaine died March 4, 2019, at her daughter’s home. She was 88.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Delbert Danneman; and sisters, Edith Brinkman and Bunice Heidtke.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy; son-in-law, Rich; grandson, Cory Polzine; great-grandson, Dylan Polzine; special friend, Vern Serck; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. March 23 at American Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minn.
