Fall Volksmarch held

Over 4,000 people walked up to Crazy Horse’s arm during the fall Volksmarch last Sunday, Oct. 1.

The annual Fall Volksmarch on Sunday, Oct. 1, saw 4,148 registered hikers walk to the end of Crazy Horse’s hand and see the progress up close.

Admission to the memorial was a donation of three cans of food per person. The memorial foundation collected 8,700 lbs. of food items, 5,000 more than the fall Volksmarch in 2016. The hike was sponsored by the Black Hills Chapter of the American Volkssport Association,

The trail winds through Crazy Horse Memorial grounds with the turnaround point on the arm of Crazy Horse. Those who had hiked up before could view the subtle changes from recent work done by the mountain crew this past summer to seal the seamlines from weather. Many saw how much has been done on both sides of Crazy Horse’s hand and forearm in the past year.
