‘It doesn’t do any good to stay mad’

By Ron Burtz

This is the photo of 7-month-old Kadyn Buck that tipped off his mother, Mandy, that there was something wrong with his right eye. The red eye effect, as seen in the baby’s left eye, is caused by the camera’s flash reflecting off the retina in the back of the eye. Because of Coats’ Disease, Kadyn’s right eye glowed yellow in the photo. By the time an opthalmologist in Minneapolis examined Kadyn a few days before Christmas the eye was so badly damaged it had to be removed. Kadyn is the grandson of Bill and Debra Bell of Custer.
