Karen Kay Richardson was born in Huron, S.D., Aug. 2, 1943, to Kent and Annella Wright. She graduated from Custer (S.D.) High School in 1961. She then met her husband, Arthur, and they were married in 1962. They had two sons, Troy and Timm.
After moving around a bit, they settled back in Custer in 1976 where they managed A&K Market from 1976-89. After selling the business Karen worked several places including Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer Regional Senior Care and the National Museum of Woodcarving.
Karen died of natural causes March 21, 2019, at her home in Custer. She was 75.
She is survived by her sons, Troy (Christi) Richardson of Black Hawk, S.D., and Timm (Lisa) Richardson of Custer; sister, Terry Keelin of San Juan Capisterana, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Tyler, Tara, Kayla and Rylan.
Memorial services are March 27 at Custer Community Church at 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to Custer Community Church.
