Land exchange stymied, for now

A group of people from across the state — armed with large “NO” signs — attended the joint appropriations committee meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 15, to testify against Senate Bill 114 — also known as the land swap bill. However, the group never got to speak, as the bill was tabled at a request by the governor’s office.
Senate Bill 114, which would appropriate the funds for the purchase and exchange of nearly 2,000 acres of U.S. Forest Service lands to South Dakota, was tabled Wednesday, Feb. 15, during a meeting of the Joint Appropriations Committee.
