Playing piano strikes a happy note for Wells

By Ron Burtz

Lois Wells of Custer is in her happy place at the piano keyboard at the Custer Senior Center. She has been playing piano for 70 years and has played piano and organ for churches and schools for 50 years. Nearby is a treasured book of piano sonatas by Beethoven. “When I was a teenager I heard Boellmann’s “Suite Gothique,” an organ piece, played at a wedding,” she says. “My ultimate goal was then to become a church organist.”
