Custer Restaurant Week is set to return next week, after a successful first year that saw restaurants report they were as busy as they are in the summer, while those who participated gave glowing reviews of last year’s first annual event.
The driving force behind restaurant week, said Dolsee Davenport, Custer Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, is to bring people to town and/or get them out to local restaurants during a generally slow time of year. The secondary goal, she said, is to educate people on the fact many of the restaurants in Custer stay open throughout the year.
“There’s this misconception that Custer is closed for the winter and we want people to know that is not the case,” she said. “Custer has a lot going on all year long.”
Eight restaurants will participate in Restaurant Week: Black Hills Burger & Bun, Buglin’ Bull, Dakota BBQ, Custer Wolf, Laughing Water Restaurant at Crazy Horse Memorial, Pizza Mill, Pizza Works and Skogen Kitchen.
The event will showcase the freshest ingredients, most flavorful dishes and tastiest culinary gems that Custer has to offer, Davenport said.
Participating restaurants will offer their regular menus in addition to the Restaurant Week featured menu.
“It will be a great time to visit an old favorite or try something new,” Davenport said. “Custer is full of delicious dining options. We hope you find your new favorite local restaurant and discover another reason to love Custer.”
Davenport said vegetarian and gluten-free choices will be available, as will more lunch options, enabling more people to participate during the four-day event. Some are pairing special food items with drinks/appetizers/desserts.
Those who eat off a Restaurant Week menu three times can be entered into a drawing for prizes. Participants are allowed to fill as many punch cards as they can during the four days.
Restaurant Week isn’t just food, either; it’s entertainment.
Everything from Sip-n-Paint classes to trivia to live music will be offered with Custer VFW, Calamity Jane Winery & Mercantile, Custer Senior Center and Gold Pan Saloon all planning entertainment before or after dinner.
