Russell Lowell Daniels was born March 1, 1930, in Grand Island, Neb., to Mary (Banish) and Floyd Squire Daniels.
The family moved to Oregon in 1936 where he graduated from high school in 1948.
In 1950, Russ joined the U.S. Navy and served as a fire control technician aboard the USS Rochester.
On Dec. 18, 1954, Russ and Stella Bemus were married in California and they moved to Oregon to attend Oregon State and then to Seattle, Wash., area to teach at Bellvue Christian School in 1961.
After joining Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1969, Russ moved his family to Oelrichs, S.D., in the fall of 1971 to work on the translation of the New Testament into the Lakota Language.
Russ died April 22, 2018, following a long battle with Parkinson’s. He was 88.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sonny; sister, Gloria; and wife, Stella.
Russ is survived by two daughters, Donna (Ray) Lautenschlager and Sarah Schultz; six grandchildren, Zach, Danny, Katie, Shonny, Elizabeth and Emma; and 12 grandchildren, Abbie, Warren, Betsie, Wilson, Phyllis, Prescott, Kathryne, Zech, JoAnna, Gabbie, Deitrich and Rochester.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Real Life Church of the Nazarene, 4024 Sheridan Lake Rd., in Rapid City, S.D. A supper will follow and then a graveside ceremony at Pringle, S.D., cemetery.
The Behrens-Wilson funeral home in Rapid City is able to receive memorial funds designated to Institute in Creation Research.
