Wes Shafer proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medic through World War II and the Korean War. He was a longtime resident of Hill City and a special member of the Lions Club and the Little White Church.
Wes, of Hill City, S.D., died May 2, 2019, at Custer (S.D.) Senior Regional Care. He was 92.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; first wife, Irene; daughter, Linda Jo Ball; brother, Harold; sisters, Verna and Emma; and parents, Weslie N. and Mabel Shafer.
Wes is survived by his sons, Rod (Teresa) Shafer of Custer, Rick (Bev) Shafer of Wright, Wyo., and Bill (Tina) Ball of Hill City; daughters, Linda Shafer of Rapid City, S.D., and Vicki (Jeff) Krohn of Bennington, Neb.; grandchildren, Shanon (Casey) Ellerton of Custer, Jamye (Elisa) Shafer of Burns, Wyo., Amy (Ben) Pravecek of Hulett, Wyo., Mandy (Justin) Holcomb of Gillette, Wyo., Alisha (Adam) Coy of Hill City, Ashley Smith of Florida, Nate, Ava, Mary Grace and Landon Krohn of Bennington, Josh (Kim) Ball of Custer, and Dacia (Brandon) Fischer of Spearfish, S.D.; sister, Dody Raga of Custer, 17 great-grandchildren with another one on the way; and numerous friends and loved ones.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. May 31 at the Little White Church in Hill City.
Committal services will be held immediately following the memorial services at the Hill City Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to benefit the Little White Church or the Hill City Lions Club.
