Greetings! I hope everyone had a blessed thanksgiving. Now onward through the advent season to Christmas. Marcia and I just got home from a sing-along with the various Hill City churches hosted by the Little White Church. It was very well done and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all. And there were cookies too!

Small Business Saturday started Nov. 27, 2010, when the day was conceived and promoted by American Express using a nationwide radio and television advertising campaign. (If the company had used print advertising, it probably would have caught on better). The company also utilized social media and public relations campaigns.

Securing our homeland

I love South Dakota. I love our natural beauty – from the rolling plains to the incredible Black Hills, from the Mighty Missouri to the peaceful prairie lakes. I love our people – they’re the hardest working around with common sense American values and strong family morals. I love everything about our state (except for maybe the January weather).

There’s already plenty going on in Pierre

Greetings! Hey, Tim, anything going on in Pierre? Naw, not much. Not. Probably more than ever before!
First off, our very popular governor has accepted a position offered by President-elect Trump to be the next Homeland Security secretary. Hooah hooah! What a great honor for her and all of us South Dakota citizens. I’m just getting started.

Housing problems keep piling up

An already-scarce housing situation just got more scarce, as recently the Creekside Apartments were sold to an out-of town-investor, who from the sounds of things plans to turn the apartments into more vacation rentals. Making matters worse is that the apartments aren’t empty. No, five tenants—including a single mother and an elderly couple—were given all of 30 days to get out and find a new place to live. Happy holidays.

Taking stock of the election results

It’s all over.
Well, there are still some states counting their ballots (at the time this was written), but for all intents and purposes, the election is over, both nationally and on the state level. We have our winners, we have our losers. We have those who are happy. We have those who are sad. Such is the case after every election. That’s the way it always has been, and the way it always will be. Some just handle it better than others.

Looking for the bright side

Over the weekend, I made the trek up to Black Elk Peak. It’s a trail I usually avoid in the summer months because of how  busy it is, but now that we’re in the cooler, lonelier months I get to take my time, really activate my senses and enjoy the views—or at least try to.

Media must regain public’s trust

A large swath of the American people no longer trust the media. It’s a sad reality for people in our industry, but it’s reality nevertheless. It’s something the media has brought upon itself, with its 24-hour news cycles that are less journalism and more opinion with two (or more) people screaming and each other, you, or both, giving you a narrative that fits that channel’s political agenda.
