Emergency Dispatchers are the first point of contact during emergencies and are responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other public safety agencies. The ideal candidate is dependable, calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Applicants must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, possess a high school diploma or GED, hold or be able to obtain a valid South Dakota driver's license, have no felony convictions, successfully pass a background investigation, and complete the South Dakota 911 Basic Certification Course within one year of hire. HELP WANTED: SEVEN FULL TIME DEPUTY SHERIFFS
Custer County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for seven full-time Deputy Sheriff positions. Starting wage is $26.32/hour for uncertified officers and $27.59/hour for current South Dakota certified officers, plus a $1.00/hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Deputies enforce local and state laws, respond to and prevent crime and accidents, serve legal processes, and promote public safety through community policing. The Sheriff’s Office also provides contract patrol services for the City of Custer and the United States Forest Service. Requirements: Minimum age 21; high school diploma or GED; valid driver’s license with insurable driving history; successful background investigation; no prior felony or qualifying domestic violence convictions; current South Dakota Law Enforcement certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire; and availability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
