Lois Darlene Haskell Fisher passed away Oct. 13, 2025.
Lois was born in Sundance, Wyo., June 24, 1937, to Clarence and Winnefred (Hickel) Haskell.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Rhonda); granddaughter, Amber (Dan); grandson, Mike (Laura); granddaughter, Carrie; granddaughter, Erica; grandsons, Garett (Chelsee), Luke (Clancy); granddaughter, Jessica; sister, Elenor “Dolly” (Gerald); numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Carol Sharpe

Carol Louise Sharpe was a lifelong educator, devoted family member, and kind-hearted community member who touched many lives. She passed away June 27, 2025.
Carol was born Feb. 25, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Alliance, Neb., High School in 1960. She went on to earn an Associate degree in Education from Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., a school supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She continued her education with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and a Master’s degree from Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb.

Gale Barney

Gale Kent Barney, age 79, passed away June 8 2025, in Kingman, Ariz. He was born July 9, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth Dean Barney and Faye Madeline Letellier. He was known by his middle name of Kent.
Kent was 9 months old when his family moved to a ranch in Norris, S.D. Kent learned how to run all the equipment and helped from a very early age. Along with brothers, born later. He finished high school in Belvidere, S.D., then attended a tech school in Denver, Colo.

Dan Galloway

Dan Ross Galloway, 80, of Hill City, S.D., passed away peacefully June 1, 2025.
Born in Greensboro, N.C., Oct. 22, 1944, Dan lived a life marked by faith and a deep love for God.
A proud graduate of Grimsley High School, Class of 1963, Dan went on to earn his degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1967. He built a long and successful career as a sales representative with Dow Chemical working in both Michigan and North Carolina for 34 years. 

Kenneth Redden

Kenneth Buell Redden was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Lindsay, S.D., to Everett and Arleta (Mackey) Redden in a small farmhouse of his grandparents. 
Ken was the eldest of 10 children.  He attended school at the Kirley School in rural Stanley County, S.D., through the eighth grade.
Ken worked for several neighboring farmers from the age of 13 until he entered the Army at the age of 18. He was stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo., and then onto Germany where he worked as a mechanic.

Richard C. Smith, 82, passed away April 16, 2025, at Fort VA Medical Center. A drive-thru graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Hill City Cemetery.

Gregory Brose

Gregory Ryan Brose passed away peacefully from the effects of an unexpected cardiac arrest March 23, 2025, at Monument Hospital in Rapid City, S.D., surrounded by his loving family. He was 48 years young.
Greg was born Oct. 13, 1976, in Wilmington, Ohio, to Marvin “Greg” and Peggy (Cloud) Brose. In 1987 his family moved to Mississippi. He attended Tishomingo County High School in Iuka, Miss.

Lois McVey

Lois Rose McVey, 91, of Hill City, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Friends and family are invited to a vigil service at St. Rose of Lima Church at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025.  A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11 at the church. John Sanders

John Michael Sanders—rancher, engineer, veteran, pilot, politician, 1972 Flood survivor—died Friday, March 21.
John was born Dec. 20, 1954, the oldest child of Ken and Betty Sanders and the oldest grandchild of Harley and Maryn Sanders. The family lived on the Green Mountain Ranch along Bogus Jim Road northwest of Rapid City, S.D., and John learned ranching by following his father on his paint pony, Buddy.
