Work force housing and unemployment

Since announcing last week that I am on the summer task force summer studies for both marijuana and work force housing, much has happened. Work force and housing for the workers is a monumental challenge for our state.  That, coupled with increases in unemployment pay through COVID-19 funds, has crippled business in getting enough workers to run their operation.

What happened to patriotism?

One of the first actions of the new Biden administration was to cancel the scheduled patriotic July 3 fireworks display at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. National Park Service (NPS) officials cited health risks, including those associated with the coronavirus pandemic and opposition from Native American tribes.

What makes mothers so important?

What’s the big deal about mothers? Why is Mother’s Day observed with so much more fanfare than Father’s Day? Why do college and professional sports figures often say, “Hi, Mom!” when the camera pans to them?
I personally think fathers are just as important as mothers, but it’s undeniable that Mother’s Day is a bigger deal than Father’s Day for whatever reasons.
It’s been said that fathers are the head of the home and mothers are the heart of the home. Perhaps it’s because mothers are usually the caregivers during the early years of a child’s life.

Summer study will include marijuana

Greetings! So, what’s going on? This last week I was at Chamberlain airport with Rep. Reimers and the crop sprayers. This group has concerns about frivolous lawsuits and legislation brought against them from residents who have a small acreage, usually organic, farm/garden and don’t like them spraying crops on land adjacent to their property. I got to see what these crop dusters go through in getting authenticated in the spraying practice and was more than a little impressed.

Convention of States overdue

It may be too little too late, but at least there is a mechanism and a plan in the works to limit both the terms of our elected officials and the overreach of the federal government. Plans for a Convention of States (COS) is in the works and has been for the past several years.
Elsewhere in this newspaper you can read all about what has been happening with the COS process being spearheaded locally by Harvey Fitzgerald of Buffalo Gap, formerly of Hermosa. He is a retired S.D. Army National Guard lieutenant colonel who now operates a small ranch.

We want our country back

Add more states (leftist senators). Add more Supreme Court (leftist) justices. Add new federally controlled agencies (task forces). Defund local police (turn them over to federal control) and close prisons. Remove individual state election rights (turn over to federally controlled elections). Control state run media.

Greetings! Listen up! You’re not going to believe this! I agree with President Biden! No, it is not about his executive overreach in shutting down the Keystone Pipeline.  No, it is not about how he has the Forest Service cutting back on logging permits thus shutting down the Hill City sawmill. No, it is not even about overreaching his presidential power and stopping fireworks at Mount Rushmore on Independence Day. No, it is definitely not about borrowing another two trillion dollars from communist China for more stimulus money disguising it as infrastructure.

Will we have a record tourism year in 2021?

If you are a betting man or woman, the odds are that this year could find tourism numbers blowing the lid off of any year in the past in the Black Hills. People living in nearby and faraway states that still have their businesses partially locked down will be flocking to the relatively safe confines of the great outdoors in our area.

For the past several weeks it has been the best selling non-fiction book in America, but I’m willing to bet most of you reading this have never even heard of Steve Deace’s “Faucian Bargain.” That’s because it contains a vast amount of what Al Gore would call “inconvenient truths” about Dr. Anthony Fauci and the medical and public policy fiasco that has been the coronavirus pandemic.

Exciting times at Ellsworth

Greetings! One of the coolest things about being in the legislature is the impact you can make for your district and the state of South Dakota.  On  April 9 we had the ground breaking ceremony for the Liberty Center located in Box Elder. So, what’s a Liberty Center?  Well, it’s a gymnasium with an eighth mile indoor track, basketball courts, a weight room and all the trimmings.
It was requested by Ellsworth Air Force Base.  The facility they’re using now is an old aircraft hangar. With the new B21 Raiders scheduled for Ellsworth, they are going to need to reclaim that hangar.
