All of the hard work put in by the Hill City Rangers cross country team paid off as the girls team took second place in Class A at the 2019 South Dakota State Cross Country Meet held in Huron on Saturday.
The team finished with a total of 69 points, while eighth-grader Abby Cutler came in second place with a time of 19:00.93.
For the boy’s team, Luke Rupert, also an eighth grade student, came in 41st place as the school’s lone male runner.
The Run Crazy Horse Marathon and Half- Marathon was held Sunday.
The race started at Crazy Horse Memorial. Participants wound their way through the Black Hills before finishing on Main Street in Hill City. It was a beautiful, sun-shiny day with perfect temperatures for running.
Over 1,000 people from 45 states, Canada and the United Kingdom registered for the race, said Emily Wheeler, race organizer.
The Hill City Rangers volleyball team capped of a week where it went 8-0 — including six wins on Saturday — with a win at the Belle Fourche Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
To start off the day, the team beat Douglas, Lyman and Hot Springs. It played Belle Fourche to make into the semifinals, where it was matched up against St. Thomas More.
