Spring is in the Air in Hill City

Spring has sprung early in Hill City as the merchants host the Spring is in the Air event coming up March 15. 
They are encouraging shoppers to visit stores, check out new merchandise and collect seed packets as they shop. Each venue has an in-store promotion or discount along with a fun and creative gift for shoppers.

— The Hill City Rangers girls basketball team punched their ticket to the state girls basketball tournmanet for Class A. The Rangers defeated Crow Creek 45-43 at a neutral site game in Kadoka as part of the SoDak 16. The Rangers were able to get to the SoDak 16 after advancing through regional play by defeating Hot Springs 58-12 March 2 and by defeating Belle Fourche 61-54 in overtime March 5.

Antiques show set for this weekend

The Hill City Antique, Railroad and Collectibles Show takes place this weekend at the Hill City Center.
This year there will be three days of antiques, collectibles, memorabilia and art by a wide variety of vendors from the region. The event is a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the South Dakota State Railroad Museum (SDSRM). The show and sale is a smorgasbord of western and railroads, including several limited edition pieces  by artist Charles (C.M.) Russell and American sculptor Russell Jorgensen.

5 YEARS AGO, 2020 —A total of 43 United States citizens had been infected by the coronavirus, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported March 2, with 17 hospitalizations, two deaths and 10 states reporting cases; no South Dakotans had yet been infected ... The National Park Service (NPS) announced the next steps for the return of fireworks to Mount Rushmore National Memorial for the first time in 11 years.

Annual Radar Run hits Deerfield Lake

The Black Hills Snowmobile Club will take the runway at its annual Radar Run event coming up March 1. The club won’t be walking the runway but rather racing at top speeds of upward of 100 mph across Deerfield Lake.
Some modifications from previous years, including shortening the track, were made for safety reasons. Club member Mike Boock only recalls one major wreck over the course of the years, but they want to focus on safety.
