John Miller

John William “Bill” Miller was born April 5, 1944, in Hot Springs, S.D., at the Sister’s Hospital to John Francis (Jack) Miller and Esther Pauline (Gleeck) Miller. He lived in Edgemont, S.D., for the first six years of his life.  
The family then moved to Niobrara County, Wyo., where John attended  Fairview Rural School, graduating from the eighth grade. Upon graduating at Fairview School, John went to Edgemont High School, graduating in 1962.

Garry Nelson

On Nov. 2, 2024, Garry nelson went to be with the Lord Jesus. Many will remember Garry for his witty personality and his “cowboy sense of humor.”
Garry was a cowboy, an artist, a horse-shoer...he never liked being called a “farrier,” and he was a friend to many.
Garry spent the earlier years of his life working for stock contractor Cotton Rosser following the rodeo circuit and riding saddle broncs, the latter being his passion.

Martha ‘Bunny’ Colyer

“Bunny” Colyer, 91, of Custer, S.D., passed away Nov. 4, 2024, at her home in Custer.
Bunny was born Martha P. Masters April 19, 1933, to Lawrence and Martha (Korthaus) Masters in Custer. She was the oldest of three, Eddie being second and Dana third.
Bunny and her siblings would ice skate to and from school on French Creek along Lower French Creek Road. She played the bass drum in the marching band, so she became the “Energizer Bunny.”

Rosemarie Koehler

Rosemarie Koehler was born Jan. 2, 1957 in Oahu, Hawaii. She passed away  Nov. 16, 2024, at her home in Custer, S.D. She was 67.
She is survived by her husband, Russ Koehler; daughters, April Cecil and Heather Cecil; grandchildren, Shawn Benson, Cooper Pfau and Rose Hansen; and sisters, Donna Remme, Anita Lausterer, Darlene Cordes and Leilani Ellison.
Committal service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 21 at Custer Cemetery.
Arrangements have been placed in the  care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.

Margery Baldwin

Margery Gene (Brendmoen) Baldwin was born to Oscar and Mabel (Hanson) Brendmoen Sept. 12, 1927, in Webster, S.D. She was raised on a farm during the “dirty ’30s” and often rode a horse to school.
After graduating from high school in Pierpont, S.D., she married Leeland Baldwin in November 1946. Together they had five children. They moved to Custer, S.D., in 1953 where they raised their family and where she lived until her death. She and her husband were charter members of Custer Lutheran Fellowship west of Custer.

Eric Butler

Eric R. Butler, 75, of Custer, S.D., passed away Nov. 15, 2024.
Full obituary is pending.
Visitation will be held 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22 at Living Outreach Church in Custer, S.D., with funeral service following at 2 p.m.
Committal services will be held at Pringle (S.D.) Cemetery immediately after the funeral service
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.

 

Raymond Hadlock

Raymond E. Hadlock, 87, of Custer, S.D., passed away Nov. 16, 2024, in Custer.

Rudolph “Rudy” Karl Anderson was born to Jack and Helen Anderson May 19, 1931, in Whitefish, Mont. The family returned to Custer, S.D., a year later, and Rudy spent most of his life in Custer.  

Mike Dailey

Mike Dailey was born Oct. 6, 1950, to Milo and Margaret Dailey in Des Moines, Iowa.  He lived in Coon Rapids, Iowa, where he attended grade school and later moved to Mitchell, S.D., where he attended grade school.
His mother was killed in a car accident when he was 9 and his father married Barbara Belmont. The family moved to Cambridge, Mass., where his father attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary. From there they moved to Algona, Iowa, where he graduated high school.
