What the bleep is up with bitcoin? It’s up, it’s down. It seems to move whenever  the electrifying “Mulosken” speaks. But when powerful countries talk about it...nothing. I hear young coworkers talk about buying it and then watching it, not at all like a stock, but more like a horserace. When it’s up they have dollar signs in their eyes. When it’s down they have tears. And I wonder how many of them, like me, don’t understand what the heck it even is.

Summer reading contest starts June 7

“One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by”  - Jeannette Walls author of “The Glass Castle.”
The Magical Masquerade Community Evening was great fun and the butterbeer was definitely a hit! Thank you to everyone who attended and for all volunteers that helped. We could not do the things we plan without you!
The Kids’ Summer Reading Contest begins Monday, June 7. Please register at the library. We will have weekly prizes and grand prizes.

Top brass have deep concerns

It’s become painfully apparent these past few weeks that our new president is in way over his head. People knew what they were getting when they voted for Joe Biden, a Washington, D.C. career, do-nothing politician from Delaware who was the alternative to a sometimes controversial President Donald Trump. Biden assured us that despite his age he was up to the job of running the country. He has been running it alright, right into the ground since his inauguration.

Sometimes a blessing can be found in the most unpromising place and when you least expect it.
Such was the case years ago while I was working in another state under an editor who routinely assigned me stories he clearly didn’t have any interest in. They weren’t the important news stories of the day and they were often in out-of-the way places and seemingly of little interest to most of our readers.
My assignment that day was to interview Lena, who, with her husband, eked out a barely subsistable living on a farm some distance away.

Greetings! I hope you’re not standing when you read this because you’re going to fall over. Please take a moment and have a seat.  Just when Gov. Noem stopped the extra $300 per week for the unemployed, this happened! President Biden is going to send the parents of nearly every child under age 6 $300 per month; ages 6-18 $250 per month, both payments starting in July 2021. Un-blankety blank-believable!

Serving our nation’s heroes

On the last Monday of every May, our nation pays special tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Our celebration of Memorial Day dates back to the Civil War, when fellow Americans began honoring the countless soldiers who lost their lives in battle. Memorial Day is often filled with picnics and parades, but its important to take a moment to truly reflect on the solemnity of the day.
