Anna Marie Evans

Anna Marie “Dolly” (Wood) Evans, 95, passed away Nov. 13, 2025.
She was born Jan. 16, 1930, the first child of Anna Marie Conlon Wood and Leonard Wood, at the Sisters Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D.
She was a lifetime resident of Pringle, S.D. A life built on hard work, determination and doing things her own way.
In 1948 Dolly married her high school sweetheart, Harry Evans. Side by side they ran the Evans Post and Pole Yard, cutting, hauling and peeling posts.
She and Harry raised six children, the late Kathleen Ann Deaver, the late Michelle Ann Heinbaugh, Patricia Don Franceso, Rosemary Ann Dryden, Harry David Evans and Lisa Ann Anderson. Dolly was proud to say she had 51 direct descendants.
Dolly is also survived by her brother, Robert Wood; sister, Colleen Mahrt; and sister-in-law, Oonagh Wood.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; and her brother, Leonard Wood.
Dolly had an extensive knowledge of Pringle’s history and the people who lived there. She  could tell local residents the story of their parents, grandparents and even land they lived on.  She was proud to have been a school teacher at the Cold Springs School and often still carried spelling and math  books for children she encountered. Her mantra of “onward and upward” reveals her true pioneer spirt. She inspired to be a genteel woman.
