Barbara Edwards

Barbara J. Edwards was born Oct. 25, 1956, in Dallas, Texas to John “Ries” and Helen Bambenek. She spent most of her early life in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Barb was well traveled and visited every state in the country while working a job that few women were allowed to do, remodeling Kmarts across the country. She made Custer, S.D., her home and final resting place.
Barb had a wonderful and fruitful life and was always helping people whenever she could. She was well known as the owner of the Gold Pan Saloon, the Frontier Grill and loved for her volunteer services at the Custer Senior Center. She would fundraise and organize Christmas of Hope to ensure that every senior in the retirement home had a new blanket and something to open for Christmas. She even made sure that there was a Santa that would arrive at the senior center on a fire truck.
Barb passed away May 21, 2024, from complications from cancer at Monument Health in Rapid City, S.D. She was 67.
She is laid to rest in the Custer Cemetery and was preceded in death by her best friend, soulmate and husband, Gregory L. Edwards.
Barb is survived by her children, Steve and Jessica, and their children Anthony, Mara, Alexis, Natalie, Ali, Kaden and Lanie; her husband’s nephew who she loved as another son, Christopher, along with his wife Monique and their two children, Maribel and Andrew; and the rest of the Edwards family; her brothers and sisters, John “Fritz,” Tina, Anne, Christopher “Dewey,” as well as their spouses and children.
She will be missed by many friends and family.
