Black Hills Playhouse cancels season

Black Hills Playhouse leadership met llast Saturday to evaluate its situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and made what is said is a heart-wrenching decision to postpone the 2020 Season with the intent to celebrate the 75th Season in 2021. For the first time since 1946, the BHP will not produce a summer season of theatre.

"We are devestated," said Playhouse executive director Linda Anderson. "As we weighed our ability to keep artists and patrons safe, combined with the current business climate and uncertain timelines, it became obvious that this is the right course of action given the circumstances. Nevertheless, it was an incredibly hard decision."

Beginning April 20, patrons, advertisers and sponsors will receive information regarding options available regarding tickets and season investments.

BHP to resume Dakota Players theatre residencies this summer, continue its work inclusive of people with disabilities, and hold our BHP Jr. performing arts camps.

"We will assess the situation weekly and make decisions based on the best advice from our public health officials," Anderson said. "In addition, our team is engaged in building remote-learning and engagement programs to provide community art until we see each other again at the theater. We are heartbroken that we can’t bring our BHP family together for a season in the tradition that has continued over seven decades."
