Bonnie Guerre of Hill City was named the 2023 South Dakota Library Association Trustee of the Year for her service to the Hill City Library Board of Trustees as both past president and current vice-president. The award was presented by Jennifer Williams-Curl, public relations chair for the South Dakota Library Assoc. at its annual conference held at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Rapid City.
Guerre also serves as the longtime president of the Friends of the Hill City Library, the fundraising non-profit 501(c)3 providing programming funds for the library. Her fellow board members describe her as an organized individual who gets things done.
She assisted with establishing both 501(c)3 status and the Friends of the Hill City Library Fund with Black Hills Area Community Foundation for future expansion of the library facility.
“I personally nominated Bonnie because she is one of the library’s number one fans,” said Tammy Alexander, head librarian at the Hill City Public Library. “Bonnie diligently strives to help the library and Friends of the Library group to be the best it can be and on top of that she is a class act.”
Guerre called the honor a huge surprise.
“The plaque is beautiful, and it represents the community’s phenomenal support of the Hill City Public Library,” she said.
