Boys track team breaks school record

Early in the season the Hill City High School track team is showing some big success. 
At the Douglas Early Bird track and field meet last Tuesday, the boys 400 relay team comprised of Caleb Sobolik, Mason Wiese, Ayden Kurtz and Nick Schroeder broke the previous school record with a 44.41 run and finished third in the event. 
The girls team took a sixth-place finish in the event with a team of Katelyn Dean, Lillie Ham, Addysen Kurtz and Macie Ham.
Both 800 relay teams had a fifth place finish. The boys team consisted of Wiese, Noah Schelske, Aidan Voorhees and Sobolik with a time of 1:36.43. The girls team consisted of Demi Schrier, Ashley Ronning, Katelyn Dean and Ham with a time of 1:57.62.
The boys team took first in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:30.56 run by Dax Frandsen, Brensen Veneklasen, Devin Buehler, and Tate Grabow. The girls finished second in the event run by Andee Frandsen, Rarity Cournoyer, Joy Anderson and Daril Frandsen with a time of 4:20.
The boys sprint medley relay team finished third with a time of 4:08.74. Running for the team was Valentin Flores, Ryker Brown, Jerrad Hislop and James Dubois.
Schroeder had a fifth place finish in the 100 meter sprint with a time of 11.54, his fastest of the season.
Buehler finished fourth in the 400 meter with a 54.39 and also took a fifth place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5-6.
In the girls 400 meter, Dar. Frandsen finished third (1:09.93), her new personal record (PR), while Aspen Vaneklasen finished sixth place (1:05.42), also a new PR. 
Finishing second in the boys 800 meter was Grabow with a 1:56.16 (PR) while James Dubios took seventh in the 1600 meter with a time of 4:55.74, his fastest of the season. In the girls 1600, Brooke Thayer-Burke took eighth with a new PR of 5:53.62.
In the two-mile, Rarity Cournoyer took a second place finish for the Rangers with a new personal best time of 11:47.34. 
A. Frandsen represented well in the hurdles, finishing fifth in the 100 (16.98) and second in the 300 (50.77) hurdles.
Ashley Ronning and Ham tied for sixth place in the girls high jump with a 4-8.
In the long jump, Schroeder finished fourth with a new PR of 20-0 3/4, with Alex Stoekman jumping his new personal best with a 19-10 3/4. On the girls side, Anderson fourth (15-5), Dakota Allmer sixth (15-4 1/2), and Dean seventh (15-4 1/4), her new personal best.
Stoekman placed seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 38-2 1/4.
The Rangers next meet is scheduled for Thursday, April 17, at 9 a.m. at the School of Mines Track-O-Rama.
