Changes being made at Hill City Center
It’s already the end of January! Seems the older I get, the faster the time passes. I hope everyone has settled in to the new year and feels hopeful for a great year!
The council meeting got cut back a bit because one of the council members was out of town and another attended by phone. Dennis, who attended by phone, had an accident and was home resting. Our prayers go out to him for a quick recovery. To speed up the meeting and not keep him on the phone too long, we decided to postpone our first ordinance discussion until we had a full council. We also cancelled the executive session to discuss contracts and personnel.
Since we had invited the city attorney to attend for the executive session, we decided to have a closed meeting after the regular meeting with just the two remaining aldermen and me. With just the three of us in attendance, we could adhere to the open meeting violation laws and were able to discuss the contract between the senior citizens and the city. We drew up a few changes to the contract that seemed to satisfy everyone and met with the senior citizen president, Dale Householder, the next day.
Mr. Householder seemed in agreement with the changes to the contract, but there are still details to work out in the upcoming weeks. This council’s main goal is to utilize the new building as much as possible, without disrupting the seniors or their needs. We will give more details as they are worked out, but we all believe that we are on the right track.
The senior center/community center is a beautiful new building, with commercial kitchen facilities and is available for everyone. The new rental fees have gone into place now, but are still very reasonable for people to afford to rent.
The city is in the process of doing its own scheduling of the center, but for the next month or so, you will still contact Christy at the center. We will make all changes available to the public as quickly as we can get through this transition period. In the meantime, consider holding your next celebration, reunion, meeting or get together at our beautiful facility.
The annual Crazy Horse Marathon was approved for another year. It will be held the first weekend of October and the route will stay the same as in previous years. There was discussion concerning the street closure, but the marathon coordinator explained the complications to the route changes. We realize that every event isn’t suited for every business or person. Considering the race is scheduled for after the main summer season, the council approved the marathon for what will be its 15th year.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. The discussion of Title I of our Ordinances will be rescheduled for that date.
Thank you for your patience during our changes and discussions. As usual, I urge you to attend the council meetings.
