City, school board seats up for election
Calling all future politicians. It is election petition time once again, and a variety of offices around the county are open due to the expiration of the present terms or the resignation of the elected officers. The open positions include school board and council seats as well as a mayoral seat.
In the City of Custer, there are three seats up for election on the city council, including the Ward I seat belonging to Jeannie Fischer, the Ward II seat belonging to Nina Nielsen and the Ward III seat belonging to Peg Ryan. Each position is for a two-year term.
Mayor Bob Brown’s seat is also up for election with a two-year term.
Circulation of nominating petitions began March 1. Petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer located at Custer City Hall Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. The petitions must be filed by 5 p.m. March 25 or by registered mail at 5 p.m. March 25.
The Custer School District Board of Education has two seats up for election. Michelle Lehman and Heather Grace both have seats up for election with three-year terms.
Circulation of nominating petitions began March 1. Petitions may be filed in the office of the business manager located at 527 Montgomery Street Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The petitions must be filed by 5 p.m. March 25 or by registered mail at 5 p.m. March 25.
In Hermosa, there are three board of trustee positions available. The positions currently held by Linda Kramer and Donna Ferguson are for three-year terms, and the position currently held by Aaron Serviss is for a one-year term. Serviss was appointed to fill the position of Vicki Hendricksen who resigned last August.
Interested individuals must be an in-town resident of Hermosa and a registered voter.
Circulation of nominating petitions began March 1. Petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer located at 230 Main Street between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The petitions must be filed by 5 p.m. March 25 or by registered mail at 5 p.m. March 25.
Two seats are open in Fairburn for three-year terms and are currently held by Dean Weekley and Melissa Kramer.

Petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer located at 110 Lynn St. March 19 at 6:45 p.m. before or after the Fairburn Equalization Meeting. Petitions can also be filed by appointment with Joan Harris at 605-484-5307 or by registered mail delivered or postmarked by 5 p.m. March 25.
At the Elk Mountain School District, two board positions are open for election with three-year terms. The seats are currently held by Travis Paulton and Mary Boots.

Petitions may be filed in the office of the Elk Mountain School Business Manager located at 10222 Valley Road at Dewey by appointment at 605-749-2258. On March 25, petitions can be filed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Petitions must be filed by 5 p.m. March 25 or by registered mail at 5 p.m. March 25.
In Pringle, three seats on the town board are up for election. One seat is for a one-year term, one seat is for a two-year term and one is for a three-year term. Voting members on the board select a chair as well as a chairman/mayor from there.
Interested individuals must live in the city limits of Pringle.
Finally, in Buffalo Gap there is a three-year seat available that is currently held by Terry Kizer. A two-year seat is also open. It is currently held by Wendy Ricci who filled out the term of former board president Glenn Scofield, who resigned.
