Custer Deli now open for business

The Custer Deli opened Aug. 5 and with 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday (open Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), Custer now has more options for breakfast, lunch and dinner downtown.
Located at 437 Mt. Rushmore Road, between Southern Hills Law and the Rock Shop, The Custer Deli offers full cases of meat and cheese, cold salads and hot entrees.
Wanting to strengthen Custer’s restaurant/food choices, creative force Gabi Braia handles the majority of the deli’s cooking, providing “healthy, comfort food,” she said.
“We’re about fresh food that’s prepared to order,” Braia said.
Co-owner Sorin Braia said The Custer Deli is also looking ahead to wintertime. The Braias said this winter the deli will remain open six days a week to give locals an additional place to eat.
The Braias also noted they pay attention to what our town’s taste preferences are to ensure they have favorites kept on the menu. For example, The Custer Deli already has a loyal fan base for their lemon blueberry pancakes ($5.99). Some of The Custer Deli’s other options like French toast, over-easy egg platter or fresh pastrami, speak to the reason we visit restaurants in the first place: they just do it better than we can.
The Custer Deli keeps prices reasonable with large pastries at $2.25 and a to-go chef’s garden salad for $7.99. Their cooler has four racks of beer options to pair with the deli’s sandwiches.
Originally from Romania, the Braia family is proud to be part of the downtown Custer neighborhood and they look forward to you visiting their new deli.
“So far, the response has been great,” Sorin Braia said.
