DeAnna Hill

DeAnna L. Hill was born Dec. 19, 1947 at Scotland, S.D., at the doctor’s office and brought home to Tyndall, S.D., by her parents, Clareane and Gertrude (Dobesh) DeRoos.
DeAnna was second born of six children. She attended Tyndall Public School and met her husband, Duane, in 1964 at a dance. They were married March 14, 1965. Added to their family were four children.
DeAnna worked all through high school at a cafe and a bakery. After moving to Yankon, S.D., in 1975, she worked as a baker at the Yankton Public School Cafeteria for 18 years, then at Fry-n-Pan Restaurant as a pastry chef for 10 years.
In 2006 they retired and moved to their log home in rural Custer, S.D. After several years she developed dementia, which took her life at age 76, Sept. 14, 2024.
Dancing, baking, reading, her cookbooks, canning, rummaging and card games were her hobbies.
She was the rock of the family and enjoyed her 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Surviving her is her husband, Duane of Custer; four children, Tammy (Dennis) Kokesh of Yankton, Tina Wysuph of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Theresa Hill Ridgeway of Yankton, and son Todd (Katie Hill) of Omaha, Neb.
She was preceeded in death by her parents.
