Democrats closing in on control of media

A federal judge last week said what has become increasingly obvious to even the casual media observer. The Democrat party is close to controlling the press, as D.C. Circuit Judge Laurence Silberman detailed what he described as shocking bias against Republicans.
In The Epoch Times story by Zachary Stieber dated March 20, Silberman laid out his opposition to a key Supreme Court 1964 decision in New York Times v. Sullivan, which has since protected many media outlets from lawsuits. The judge is a President Ronald Reagan appointee and wrote that the ruling is “a threat to American Democracy” and must be overturned.
He is quoted as saying, “The increased power of the press is so dangerous today because we are very close to one-party control of these institutions. Our court was once concerned about the institutional consolidation of the press leading to a ‘bland and homogenous’ marketplace of ideas. It turns out that ideological consolidation of the press (helped along by economic consolidation) is the far greater threat.” It’s a fact that the majority of news outlets in the country lean far to the left. This includes not only newspapers, but also broadcast cable stations and even radio stations, as the judge points out.
“Two of the three most influential papers (at least historically), The New York Times and The Washington Post, are virtually Democratic Party broadsheets. And the news section of The Wall Street Journal leans in the same direction,” the judge said.
He said the orientation of these three newspapers is followed by The Associated Press and most large newspapers across the country, such as the Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald and Boston Globe. He said nearly all television, network and cable, “is a Democratic Party trumpet. Even the government-supported National Public Radio follows along.”
The judge also noted the influence Big Tech has over how news is distributed, pointing to how Twitter limited the spread of a New York Post story about President Biden’s son’s Hunter and his alleged nefarious dealings with foreign companies and governments, which also included the elder Biden. This pre-election story was suppressed by Twitter.
Silberman did say there are a few notable exceptions to the news organizations he mentioned. Among them are FOX News, the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page. We would add Newsmax TV and The Epoch Times to this short list.
We have often wondered about our liberal friends who have such an obvious difference in the way they see things in the world. We can only conclude they are viewers and readers of liberal-slanted broadcast stations and news magazines and newspapers. Liberal news outlets also sway public opinion by what they choose not to report. For instance, it took CNN almost a week before it reported sexual harassment allegations against New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose brother, Chris, is a CNN anchor. One-sided controlled news is detrimental to free thought and an attack on freedom of speech.
We will leave you with this one final thought which is one of our all-time favorite President Ronald Reagan notable quotes: “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.” Reagan had a way with words.
