District 30 Senate recount next week

The official recount in the election for District 30 senator will take place next Monday and Tuesday.
When the election results were tallied for the primary election June 7, current senator Julie Frye-Mueller was ahead of challenger Tim Goodwin, a current District 30 representative, by the thinnest of margins, capturing 2,848 votes compared to Goodwin’s 2,802. This was within the margin for Goodwin to request a recount.
The recount will begin with the Pennington County ballots Monday at 9 a.m., and then proceed to Custer County at 2 p.m. The recount will wrap up Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. with the Fall River County ballots.
The winner of the race will receive a two-year term in the state’s Senate. Both candidates are Republican.
Frye-Mueller received 1,164 votes from voters in Custer County, while Goodwin collected 1,051 votes.
Goodwin served the previous six years in the House of Representatives for District 30. Frye-Mueller spent the last two years as the district’s senator after previously serving as a representative.
