Easter sunrise service at Mount Rushmore

He is risen! He is risen indeed! Happy belated Easter. Here in District 30 we have two world famous monuments. No, not the civic center nor the hospital —drum roll—I guess everyone knows we have Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. One of the most gratifying religious events in the Black Hills is the Easter Sunrise Service at Mount Rushmore.
The National Forest Service opens its doors for free to the public to have an Easter Sunrise Service at the Mount Rushmore Amphitheater. Service always starts at 7 a.m.
This year the First Congregational Church of Keystone, Hermosa Church of Christ and the Little White Church of Hill City were the hosts. The ministers trade off who is going to give the Easter message, and they all organize a choir, the PA system, ushers and all the other behind the scenes things that make it such a rewarding service.
I arrived by myself because Marcia was still recovering from getting her second Shingrix immunization. It was 6 a.m., and I was looking to see if they needed any help such as ushering, etc. Man, these three churches were organized and had all their help there prior to 6 a.m.
Any time you head up the walkway to Mount Rushmore, it is a feeling of awe just looking at the faces, going through the state parade of flags and just taking in the pure beauty and tranquility of the Black Hills. We truly are blessed to live in the freest country, and the freest state, arguably the most beautiful place on earth.
I sent out a picture from above showing the full amphitheater with the faces above. Absolutely stunning. We truly are a blessed people. He is risen. He is risen indeed
