A trio of Hill City events was approved at Monday night’s meeting of the Hill City Common Council.

The three events approved were Sculpture in the Hills, Wine, Brew and BBQ and Run Crazy Horse Marathon.

The first one that was discussed was Sculpture in the Hills.

“The Hill City Arts Council puts this on,” said Brett McMacken, city administrator for Hill City. “This is the 13th annual rendition of the event.”

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the event was not put on last year, meaning the most recent Sculpture in the Hills was held in 2019.

McMacken reported that the only change the Hill City Arts Council wanted to make to their permit was the location of the tent where the event is held. Previously, the tent was located on the street in between Granite Sports and Alpine Inn on Elm Street; however, this year the arts council wants to put the tent on the other side of Elm Street in between the Farmer’s Daughter and Heart of the Hair Salon.

This event permit was approved 4-0 and will be held June 17 through June 21.

The second event discussed and approved by the Hill City Common Council was Run Crazy Horse Marathon.

Race organizer Emily Wheeler said this will be the 11th anniversary of the event.

There will be no change from the root in Hill City, she said.

This event was passed 4-0 and will be held Oct. 3.

The last and final event discussed and approved by the council was Wine, Brew and BBQ.

Wheeler is also an organizer of this event, and she said there will be no changes on this year’s application.

“We really liked having Elm Street for the participants,” she said. “It was a more fun atmosphere.”

She did say, though, that the event organizers will work to close off more spots for competitors earlier on Thursday to allow for parking for them.

The lone comment Kathy Skorzewski, Hill City mayor, had was for increased communication to avoid confusion.

This event was approved 4-0 and will be held Aug. 27-28.
