Francine Lee Johannson was born Feb. 1, 1965, in Hot Springs, South Dakota, to Robert and Maxine Hewitt. She grew up and went to school in Custer, South Dakota, and graduated from Custer High School with the class of 1983. She was married June 1, 1984, in Custer to Mark Johannson, and they made their home in Custer where she was a CNA. They moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1990 where she continued as a CNA. In 2001, she injured her back and was unable to be a CNA. In 2006, she moved to Buffalo where she worked for Neltje at the Ucross Foundation for 10 years. In 2016, she began running the Moose Lodge in Buffalo, where she worked for seven years. When the Moose Lodge closed down, she worked for a while as a receptionist at North Wyoming Insurance. Ill health forced her to retire in 2023, and she continued living in Buffalo until her death.
Francine enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, but her passion was her grand babies.
She is survived by Mark Johannson, their one daughter, Nicholle Jacobs and her husband Kevin of Buffalo; their one son, Tony Johannson and his life partner Tina McIntosh of Buffalo; one brother Jay Hewitt and his wife Cheryl of Spearfish, South Dakota; one sister Dawn Amick of Billings and nine grandchildren.
