Gerald Sandland

Gerald Sandland was born July 30, 1943, in McLaughlin, S.D. to Lormer and Maryan (Ressler) Sandland. He grew up on the family ranch north of McLaughlin, near the North Dakota border. He was a good student and attended all 12 years of his schooling in McLaughlin, graduating in 1963.
Gerald worked with his father in the family business, the Gold Pan Saloon in Custer, S.D., for many years. He later went on to work as a lumberjack in Oregon before moving to Gettysburg, S.D., where he was the manager of the local American Legion Club. He also worked for the Gettysburg Livestock for his friends, Kenny and Evon Koops.
Gerald later moved to Agar where he worked as a farmhand for Alvin Wolforth and later Archer Farms. He retired when health issues made it impossible for him to work in agriculture. He was very fond of horses, rodeos and was the happiest when surrounded by his many friends in central South Dakota.
Gerald, of Agar, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Highmore Health, Highmore. He was 78.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald is survived by his son, Randall; sister, Lorna Rogers; brothers, Larry and Kirk Sandland; and many friends and neighbors.
