Harold Stickney

Harlod Dean Stickney, 99, passed away Sept. 27, 2025, at Pine Hills Retirement Center in Hot Springs, S.D.
Harold  Stickney was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Edgemont, S.D., to Guy and Blanche Stickney. After graduating from high school, Harold enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served with distinction in the South Pacific during World War II, flying 41 combat missions.
Following his military service, Harold attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. It was there he met his first wife, Creta Boschma. Together, they were blessed with six children.
After college, Harold returned to Edgemont and joined his father in the family business, Stickney Motor Sales. In 1969, the family relocated to Watertown, S.D., where Harold worked for Motorola Communications before eventually purchasing and operating his own business.
In 1975, Harold married Alice Bonde. They later moved to Albuquerque, N.M., and upon retirement in 1997, settled in Custer, S.D., where Harold continued his commitment to public service as mayor.
Harold is survived by his wife, Alice; children, Randy Stickney, Leigh Ann Schleusner, Carl (Ann) Stickney and Jeff (Liz) Stickney; and stepchildren Ted Bonde, Mike Bonde, and Allison Bonde Rask.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Renee Ploof and Elayne Molbreak; and daughter-in-law, Roxcine Stickney.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangement has been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.
