Hill City School District features teacher Kari McRaith

What grade/subject do you teach?
  • Fourth grade.

Where did you grow up and where did you go to college?
  • Monticello,  Minn. and  College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.

How long have you been a teacher?
  • 13 years.

Why did you become a teacher?
  • My mom was a teacher, so I grew up spending time in her classroom and watching her prepare for lessons.  I thought it was the best job ever! I love working with kids and seeing how much they grow academically and socially during the school year.  It is so much fun celebrating their achievements with them!

What do you love about teaching in Hill City?
  •  I really enjoy teaching in a small town community where everyone knows each other.  After spending 11 years teaching in big cities, it is so refreshing to see the strong relationships and support that people in this area have for one another.

Would you like to share any personal info about coaching, family, pets?
  • I moved from Minn. to Rapid City last year with my husband Joe and our two daughters.  I am bilingual and used to be a Spanish immersion teacher.  I studied Spanish in Chile and Spain and have also travelled to Peru, Argentina, and Mexico to learn about different cultures.

In my free time, I love reading, sewing, swimming and camping.
