Ranger boys open season with wins
Chants of defense could be heard throughout Gins Gym Saturday, Dec. 14 when the Hill City Rangers boys basketball team took on Mahpíya Lúta. The Rangers showed hustle and strong defense and that paid off. The boys won their home opener 58-45 to go 2-0 on the season. The Rangers started the season with a 71-64 win over Kadoka area.
“We felt like we were moving too fast at times,” says Rangers head coach Laramie Harvey. “Playing fast is Mahpiya Luta’s game, and they are very good at their game. In the second half we did a better job slowing things down and playing our game, we feel this helped us get the win.”
Harvey says the crowd has a lot ot do with the atmosphere of the game calling Saturday’s chants “fantastic.”
“It’s easier to bring the energy when you have a great atmosphere. Obviously, the crowd has a lot to do with the atmosphere.”
Harvey said the boys “played as a team” which was crucial for their success.
The boys take on New Underwood Dec. 19 and Harvey says fans can expect more of the same.
“We intend to clean up some things and hope to be a little better than we were on Saturday night. We hope to see our community at the game. The boys love playing in front of a great atmosphere,” he said.
Varsity action begins at 7:30 p.m. in Gins Gym.
