The Rangers girls volleyball team is now 6-0 on the season after winning against Spearfish at home Sept. 3.
The girls won the first two sets 25-8 and 25-21 before giving up the third by four points, 21-25. They once again dominated play in the fourth, beating the Spartans 25-18.
It was a team effort with freshman Brooke Larsen serving up two aces, 23 digs and 12 kills in the match. Juniors Alaina Dean and Grace Peckosh were on fire, with Dean getting 26 digs with one ace while Peckosh had two aces, 16 assists, four kills and one block.
Senior Myah Larsen also had a pair of aces in addition to 14 assists, 13 digs and three kills. Fellow senior, Kylee Alexander had six kills and three blocks.
“I was really impressed with our first set against Spearfish,” said gead coach Allie Henderson. “We let off the gas a little too much in the next sets, but Spearfish also came back really well and got their offense together.”
Henderson was glad it was a competitive match.
“I’m happy it ended up being a competitive match. Even after the loss of the third set, the team never showed any negativity or lack of confidence. They demonstrated poise and presence of mind to get the job done in the end,” she said.
The Rangers will be home once again Sept. 10 to take on Douglas (2-6), who are historically a challenge for the Rangers.
“I am really looking forward to playing Douglas. We have lost to them the last two years, so getting this win would be big. I always hope for a competitive game, but we are looking to dominate,” Henderson said.
Varsity action begins at 7 p.m. at Gins gym.
