Golf has swung into action for the Hill City Rangers Golf team.
The Rangers kicked off the 2024 season at the Class B Classic in Mitchell on Friday, April 5. The team finished strong, placing third among the field of 21 teams. The Rangers scored 249 team points, closely behind Miller at 241 and Wall at 243.
Individual players did well, including Zane Messick, who tied for 5th place with a round of 80 for the Rangers. Breylon Rahn fired an 83 tying for 12th while Leo Daiss carded an 86 and finished tied at 26th. Adolph Tyler rounded out the Ranger scoring, tying at 32nd place with an 87.
“It’s exciting to have four players card rounds in the 80s this early in the season, and I think it’s a great sign for things to come,” head coach Josh Daiss said. “Zane and Breylon both played really well and were able to manage some tough weather conditions.”
Prior to the tournament Daiss said the team discussed the opening outing as being a “building block” for the season and noted the team was excited to finally get on the course. The Rangers travel to Rapid City to play at the Elks Golf Course Friday, April 12.
The team plays in six regular season tournaments this year, and fans can support the Rangers golf team this season via their fundraising efforts. There are three levels to help support the team, named after three famous pro golfers.
The John Daly supports the team by committing to $1 for each par, $2 for each birdie and $4 for each eagle.
The Payne Stewart level supports $2 for each par, $3 per birdie and $6 per eagle. The Tiger Woods level is $3 per par, $4 per birdie and $8 per eagle.
Each level offers the sponsoring individual a small swag token of appreciation for their support.
Contributions are capped if the team goes “birdie wild or flies like the eagles,” Daiss aid.
Last year’s fundraising raised enough money to purchase Ranger logo golf bags. Private donations also allowed the team to add a golf simulator to use off-season or when practice outside is impossible.
Those wanting to participate in the fundraiser can contact any golf team player or Daiss directly by May 1.
