A 24-year-old Rapid City man, Seamis Eliason, died and another was seriously injured last Wednesday morning, July 31 in a two-vehicle crash at Carroll Creek Road and US Hwy. 385 south of  Custer.
Preliminary crash information indicates at about 10:30 a.m., the driver of a 2017 Freightliner, James  Scragg, also of Rapid City, was traveling northbound on Hwy. 385 at the intersection of Carroll Creek Road. At the same time, Eliason, in a 2013 Chevrolet Express G2500, was also northbound on the highway, approaching the intersection. Eliason failed to stop and wait for the Freightliner to make the left turn and collided with the rear of the Freightliner.
Eliason was pronounced deceased at the scene. Scragg suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Scragg was wearing a seat-belt at the time of the crash, and it is unknown whether or not Eliason was wearing one.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
