Robert Stewart
Robert “Bob” Holloway Stewart was born Feb. 6, 1947, in Miles City, Mont., to Robert and Louise (Holloway) Stewart.
Bob graduated from Rapid City (S.D.) High School in 1965. He then went to the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, and proceeded to enlist in the Navy. He spent the next four years proudly serving his country.
Bob was a man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the rodeo, riding dirt bikes and exploring the Black Hills of South Dakota.
He was a man of many talents and traits as he went on to be a fisherman, carpenter, logger and owned his own business “Cold Spring Log Furniture,” where he hand crafted furniture and sold pieces throughout the country. In his free time he was part of many associations including the National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, VFW and volunteered his time as a firefighter.
Bob was a single father of two girls whom he loved dearly. He spent his time homeschooling and exploring new places with them. They settled into the Black Hills where he took a job in Custer State Park. While working there he met his beloved wife Diana, whom he married Nov. 20, 2002. From this marriage he took in three bonus children who he raised and loved as his own. He spent the next 20 years working for Custer State Park as head of maintenance.
Bob passed Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at the Monument Health Rapid City Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise Stewart; and his brother, William Stewart.
Bob will be missed by his wife, Diana Stewart of Custer; children, Sara (Paul) Roos of Rapid City, Roxanne Barton of Hot Springs, S.D., Allison (Douglas) Kadrmas of Dickinson, N.D., David (Shelby) Hernandez of Belle Fourche, S.D.; and Daniel Zelaya of Custer; grandchildren, Grace, Marcus, Frank, Mackenzie, Chase, Chloe, Memoree, Jaxson and Connor; and his brother, Samuel (Chris) Stewart.
Celebration of life will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 18 at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer, S.D. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 18 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
