Samuel ‘Skip’ Pomper

Samuel Richard “Skip” Pomper was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Long Island, N.Y. He traveled around the U.S., always finding his strength in helping young people.
Skip had a huge heart for students and seeing them succeed in getting their diploma was a huge joy for him. He worked as a paraprofessional in the Custer School District the last seven years of his life.
Skip has a daughter who lives in Maryland and a son in Florida.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a Yeoman with the Sixth Fleet staff until his discharge in 1971.   
Skip died April 1, 2021 in Custer. He was 73. He will be buried at Black Hills National Cemetery outside of Sturgis, S.D., at 1 p.m. April 30, with full military honors provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.  
A fund is being set up to purchase a memorial plaque or bench for placement in the Custer Jr./Sr. High School Theatre. Anyone interested in assisting with this endeavor can call 517-0224.
